The only thing I have to say is powders and all that stuff are supplements. They are meant to be supplemented along WITH a proper DIET and training regimine. Sounds to me like your diet was never on track and now that you started eating like a real hardgainer should you started to see some results.
I still recommend you take whey post workout and a good casein blend but keep your diet on track. Supplements are the last thing in importance in my book. So whats that tell you about my diet and training regimine?

It is very interesting. I heard another story like this before from my friend who is a bodybuilder.
Here weighed about 190-200 lbs pretty much pure muscle. He would always take protein shakes post workout….always whey. Now, another one of his friends that he lifts was the exact same weight….they train the same….yet after his workouts he would only EAT protein postworkout….chicken, tuna, etc and he could lift about I think …50-75 lbs heavier on bench and other workouts. They both workout together…doing the same lifts…..same program….etc. When I heard that….i thought there might be a link between whey vs whole food postworkout but never gave it that much thought.

That is very true….but….i still found it interesting. I mean i could be huge and lift less then a guy 100 lbs lighter then me….I know this. I just found it interesting that my friend who takes the whey said his friend (workout partner) was getting better gains and kept lifting heavier every week when just eating his protein postworkout. Obviously it could be either of their diets, genetics, etc also. But still interesting if you think about it.

so for his diet, the reasons he wasn't experiencing good gains is (for what we think at least because we don't know what his diet was like) because he wasn't balancing out all his protein intake, which is very acidic, with vitamins, minerals, vegtables and whatever?
just making sure i get what you all are sayin

Not at all. The O/P is claiming that nothing changed in his diet except for cutting out whey protein and as a result he was gaining faster than usual. I think that is the reason it sparked some interest. He didn't say that he replaced his shakes with whole food.
Personally, I find it kind of hard to believe that whey would inhibit someone's gains but I think this discussion could be kind of interesting. Or not. We'll see.

very very interesting….
Only thing I can think of is that our bodies become accustom to things after a while. Maybe dropping the whey and keeping your training the same was enough of a change to produce more rapid results. A stretch maybe, considering protein (from any source) is pretty much proven to be a muscle building block….but who knows. I know that when my results stop coming at a reasonable pace, taking a week off from everything and then jumping back into it has a similar effect for me, my body responds better after the break (it's something my dad did his entire life and it worked well for him also).
Very interested to see where this goes.

No kidding its hard to believe, our whole bodybuilding-lives we have had weigh protein adds shoved down our throats through banner adds on forums and magazines.. you really think the bodybuilders for these companies got huge from whey protein? Hell no, they are genetically gifted and take a ton of steroids, this is common knowledge.
My advice to everyone on this forum is to first off do your own research, reading is power. Second, give it shot. Have you seriously ever noticed any changes with whey in your diet? I sure havent, I just never realized that it was DECREASING my mass until I went off of it. If you do your research you will clearly see why I made gains after I took it out of my diet, it does far more harm than good. Also understand that the supplement industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, marketing is key.
I have been reading some interesting things on organic "hemp" protein, lots of vegetarians/vegans use it, I am neither but apparently it is very high in fiber, contains all 21 known amino acids and is 33% protein, lots of fiber, great for clearing out the digestive tract as well… Anyone use any different forms of protein powders besides whey/casein/egg protein?

Whats interesting is the fact that we as bodybuilder/trainers/professional athletes are being tricked through MARKETING and PROPAGANDA and "UNIVERSITY STUDIES" which by the way are total BS, any university study can be leaned to have whatever outcome they want, read up on it, like i said before, reading is power. We're sitting here spending money on something that is inhibiting us from gaining mass when they claim it is the primary muscle building supplement, and EVERYONE has it in there diet.
Whats not interesting about it??
Quit cursing in my thread, theres nothing to get all amped up about in here..save that energy for the gym.

From that article:
"Whey protein is completely "dead", in that it has no live enzymes present to digest it, allowing for the perfect bacterial base to thrive in."
Many companies include some sort of digestive enzyme blend in their proteins, probably to deal with this sort of problem.
Also from the article though:
"Take a pinch of whey protein in between your thumb and pointer finger. Now, add a few drops of water (or vinegar to mimic stomach acid) to the powder and move your fingers around to create a paste. Do you see how sticky and gooey that paste is? Getting it off your fingers is actually not that easy."
I ran the test quickly with a few drops of water (no vinegar in the house). I had to actually crush the stuff pretty hard in order for it to form a paste, but it did, and it wasn't easy to get off actually.

When I was in jr. high I took Vegetable protein that Albertsons sold and then failed my football physical because something was elevated..it didn't help that I didn't have to pee when they made me do the whole cup thing so I ended up having to drink sink water…lol
Ever since then my parents always tried to tell me that protein messes up your body..I say it was the fact that I was dehydrated when I pissed.
